Toronto Ranked One of the World’s Most Liveable Cities
The Economist Intelligence Unit recently released their 2018 ranking of the world’s most liveable cities. Out of the top 10 spots, Canadian cities scored three spots!
After a seven-year reign, Melbourne was finally toppled by Vienna as the most liveable city in the world. It may surprise people not to see large cities such as London and New York on the list, but the EIU states that’s because they suffer from their own success.
Canada snagged three spots on the top 10 lists, tying with Australia. Calgary came in at number 4 on the list and Vancouver at number 6. Our great city of Toronto came in just behind Vancouver, at number 7. Toronto and Tokyo tied for the seventh spot.
Cities are ranked on a number of different factors, such as stability, health care, and the environment. They are then awarded a score out of 100. Toronto was awarded a score of 97.2%, Vancouver 97.3%, and Calgary 97.5%.
Real estate affordability is one of the few items that dampen Toronto and Vancouver’s overall scores. While Toronto’s real estate market had a rough start to the year, it has since bounced back. These cities made up their score with their clean environment, the number of jobs available, and overall lifestyle.
