6 Tips to Make Moving into Your Richmond Hill Home Easier

6 Tips to Make Moving into Your Richmond Hill Home Easier

Moving is said to be one of the most stressful situations in life. Anyone that has gone through it can testify to that. But moving doesn’t have to be miserable. Here are a few simple tips from our Richmond Hill real estate agents to make moving that much easier!

1. Plan and Organize Early

With a typical real estate deal, both the buyer and seller have around 4-8 weeks to move. This leaves you plenty of time to plan and organize ahead of time. One of the biggest causes of stress during a move is feeling rushed. Start making a checklist of everything that needs to be done ahead of time to avoid this!

2. Purge Unwanted Items

A big mistake people make is not decluttering and purging during the moving process. Moving unearths items long forgotten about and provides the perfect excuse to get rid of unwanted items. Donate old clothing or unwanted furniture, and throw away broken items. The less you have to move, the easier it will be.

3. Pack in Advance

Don’t leave all of the packing until the day before. Buy all the packing materials you’ll need, like boxes, tape, labels, bubble wrap, and paper ahead of time. Some things like dishes and clothing won’t be able to be packed away until the last minute, but most of the house can begin to go into boxes.

4. Hire Professional Movers

Friends and family are great, but professional movers have the experience needed to quickly and efficiently move your belongings. People often underestimate just how much stuff they have. Movers handle it all, making sure your items make it safely to your new Richmond Hill home.

5. Pack an Essentials Bag

The days leading up to the move and the days after will be hectic. Items will be half in boxes half out. Save yourself a headache by packing a bag of essential items. Include fresh clothing, toiletries, chargers, snacks, and anything you’ll need immediately before or after the move.

6. Change Address in Advanced

One aspect of moving that people often forget about is putting in a change of address. Make a list of companies that will need to be notified of your new address and change them as soon as possible.
